Now in its thirty-second year of service to adults of the Austin area, the Lifetime Learning Institute of Austin maintains its identity as a nonprofit, tax-exempt, nondiscriminatory, non-political organization providing enlightenment, and enjoyment to older adults. There are no membership fees.

Volunteers who are participants in Lifetime Learning classes staff the program and determine its policies. Remarkably, the administration of the Institute has been and continues to be accomplished through the efforts of an all volunteer executive committee.

Courses are offered each year in the Fall and Spring semesters. Outstanding instructors, usually professionals or experts in their fields, receive a modest honorarium for their services. Courses cover such topics as taxation, flower arranging, foreign languages, nutrition, points of law, finance, poetry, genealogy, dancing, Tai Chi, painting, drawing, gardening, creative writing, literature, drama, history…and many more.
