  • Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Rm. 205 3525 Bee Cave Road Austin, Texas, 78746 (map)

This course will cover the history of Europe from the reign of the Roman Emperor Constantine (306-337) up to but not including the Renaissance and Reformation. Included in the course will be discussion of the fall of the Roman Empire, the German invasions, the Byzantine and Muslim worlds, the Christian conversion of Europe, Charlemagne and the Franks, feudalism, the High Middle Ages (when several important conflicts between Church and State occurred), medieval intellectual, religious, and artistic developments (especially as they impacted the growth of religious and political power), and the Late Middle Ages (when the power of the papacy declined, at the same time as the power of some kings expanded). Class outlines will be sent before each class to the e-mail address provided at the time of registration. Note: No class on September 22; course extends one week to November 10. Limit 30.
