Personal finance is a little-understood general discipline, yet it relates to many if not all aspects of daily life. This survey course focuses on real-world financial planning situations. We begin with foundational principles and proceed to advanced topics, progressing from simpler to more complex concepts. The seminar is broader than investing or investments, including discussion of account types, asset classes, retirement planning, financial personality styles, and estate planning. Our goal is for participants to feel more confident in spotting and analyzing issues related to their own personal finances, even if they have long-established plans. The class will be conducted using the Socratic method. Our instructor is a recently retired financial planner and former attorney. Limit 15.
